CNN chief Mark Thompson will remain in charge of CNN as Paramount Skydance prepares to complete its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company. Thompson will serve as chairman and editor-in-chief of CNN Worldwide and report to Skydance chairman and CEO David Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz.
The decision ends months of uncertainty about CNN’s leadership following the proposed Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The new combined company will be called Skydance, with the transaction expected to take effect October 6.
CNN and CBS News will remain separate

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss will also remain in her current position, but she will not oversee CNN. The two news organizations are expected to maintain separate editorial structures under the new company.
Thompson told CNN employees that he has confidence the new leadership will support editorial independence and that he will continue leading CNN with the same editorial responsibilities and authority.
The merger also includes a planned five-member editorial independence board intended to oversee editorial standards at CNN and CBS News.
