U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday for a two-day visit that combines high-level diplomatic meetings with a stop at his golf resort in County Clare. CNN reported that Trump landed at Dublin Airport under heavy security before beginning meetings with Irish leaders.
Trump was greeted on arrival by senior Irish officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris, along with other Irish and U.S. diplomats. He was scheduled to meet Irish President Catherine Connolly and Taoiseach Micheรกl Martin during the Dublin portion of the trip.
The visit comes as the United States and Ireland focus on economic cooperation, investment and business ties, while international conflicts and broader security issues are also expected to feature in discussions. CNN reported that Trump’s meetings would include talks on creating business opportunities for U.S. companies and international issues of mutual interest.
Trump later made headlines during his meeting with Martin by saying he would โlove to seeโ a united Ireland, adding that he believes reunification will eventually happen. The remarks drew criticism from pro-British unionists in Northern Ireland and prompted renewed discussion about the island’s constitutional future.
After his official engagements in Dublin, Trump traveled to Doonbeg in County Clare, where his golf resort is hosting the Amgen Irish Open. His visit has involved a major security operation, with Irish authorities deploying thousands of police and security personnel.
The trip is Trump’s first visit to Ireland as president since 2019 and comes at a politically significant moment, just weeks before the U.S. midterm elections.
