Chicago police are investigating a reported sexual assault at a fraternity house near the University of Chicago after a 21-year-old woman reported an attack during a party early Sunday morning, October 11.
According to the university’s community alert, the woman is not affiliated with the university. The reported incident occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. at a fraternity house associated with the Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) chapter on South University Avenue.

Officials said another person intervened, after which the unidentified suspect fled the building. An initial review of nearby surveillance footage showed someone matching the reported description running away from the location.
The woman was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center for care. University police contacted the Chicago Police Department, which is leading the investigation.
The suspect had not been publicly identified in the reports available on October 12. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact police.

The Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter said it was cooperating with investigators and expressed concern for the woman. The fraternity stated that, to the best of its knowledge, no one affiliated with AEPi was involved in or complicit with the incident. The national organization also said the chapter had been instructed not to hold events or programs while the investigation proceeds.
The University of Chicago described the report as deeply concerning and said it was supporting the victim and assisting law enforcement. The university also noted that fraternities are not recognized student organizations at the institution.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not announced a confirmed suspect or final findings.
