Three Minutes of Terror at Silver Rail Elementary School

How the Shooting Unfolded
According to police accounts reported by CNN, the first emergency call came at approximately 12:59 p.m. after a driver reported being shot at by a person carrying a firearm near the school.
Police said the suspect, identified as 16-year-old Griffin J. John II, crossed the school fence and fired at a pickup truck after the driver confronted him. He then forced his way through glass doors and entered a classroom designated for students with special needs.
Teacher and Parent Intervene
Inside the school, a teacher threw her cellphone at the suspect and tackled him in an attempt to take away his weapon, according to police.
A 36-year-old father, Kaylub Giamanco, whose daughters attended the school, followed the suspect inside. When he saw the teacher struggling with the gunman, he fired his legally carried pistol, striking and killing the suspect.
Police arrived at approximately 1:02 p.m. Authorities credited the teacher and the parent with helping prevent further loss of life.
Victims and Community Response
The victims included three children, ages 5, 8 and 11, and 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert. Two other people—a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher—were injured and hospitalized.
The attack devastated the local community. Families, students and residents gathered to mourn the victims, leave flowers and offer support to those affected.
Investigation Continues
Investigators are working to establish the motive behind the shooting and determine how the teenager obtained the shotgun used in the attack. Authorities have not publicly established a definitive motive.
