Trump’s Secret Papers Case and Kash Patel’s

FBI Fires Some Agents Over Trump’s Secret Papers Case and Kash Patel’s Phone Records

This is the FBI headquarters building in America, where many of these things happen.

What is this story about?

Some FBI workers (at least 10 people, including agents) got fired. The new FBI Director, Kash Patel, made this happen. These workers helped look into whether former President Donald Trump kept secret government papers at his home, called Mar-a-Lago.

Also, Kash Patel found out that the old FBI leaders secretly looked at his phone records (and the records of another person named Susie Wiles). This happened a few years ago during the investigation.

What happened in the past?

A few years ago (around 2022-2023), a special lawyer named Jack Smith looked into whether Donald Trump broke rules by keeping very secret papers after he was no longer president. These papers were found at his big house in Florida called Mar-a-Lago.

Here are pictures from that case showing boxes of secret papers stored in strange places, like a bathroom and a ballroom.

Trump was charged (accused in court), but after he won the election again and became president, the case was stopped because of special rules about not charging a sitting president.

What are phone records?

The FBI asked for “toll records.” These are not the words people said on the phone. They just show:

  • Who called whom
  • When the call happened
  • How long did it last?

This is like a list of calls, not listening to the talk. In big investigations, the FBI can get these records with a subpoena (a legal order) without always needing a judge’s okay first. It is a normal way to gather clues.

Why did Kash Patel fire the agents?

Kash Patel says the old FBI leaders did wrong by secretly getting his phone records and Susie Wiles’ records (she is now the White House Chief of Staff). He called it “outrageous and deeply alarming.” He says they hid the records in special “prohibited” files so others couldn’t see them easily. Patel stopped using that file name.

What do people say?

  • Kash Patel thinks it was unfair and a secret overreach by the old leaders.
  • The FBI Agents Association (a group for FBI workers) said the firings are bad. They hurt the team’s happiness, take away important skills, and could make the country less safe because good people might leave or not join.

Some people say the phone record checks were just normal police work. Others think the firings are revenge (payback) for the old investigation.

What does it mean now?

This shows big changes at the FBI under the new leader. It makes people talk about whether the FBI is fair or if politics is too involved. There is still debate about trust in government investigations.

This story is from recent news (February 2026), and it connects to older fights about Donald Trump and secret papers.
