Apple is preparing for one of the company’s most closely watched product events, with new CEO John Ternus taking center stage for the first major launch of his tenure.

One of the biggest expected announcements is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, a major change to the company’s smartphone lineup after years of competing with Samsung and other manufacturers in the foldable-phone market.
CNN reports that the new device is expected to use a book-style design that opens into a much larger display. The larger screen could make the device particularly attractive for watching video, gaming, reading and multitasking.
📱 What could make it different?
The expected foldable iPhone is reportedly designed to open to a screen approaching the size of an iPad mini while remaining compact enough to fit into a pocket when closed.
But the premium design could come with significant trade-offs. CNN’s reporting indicates that the device could cost more than $2,000, while its camera system may have fewer rear cameras than Apple’s highest-end traditional iPhones.
🍎 A new chapter for Apple
John Ternus officially succeeded Tim Cook as Apple’s CEO earlier this month. Ternus has spent more than two decades at Apple and previously led the company’s hardware engineering organization.

The foldable iPhone could therefore become an important early test of Ternus’ leadership—and of Apple’s ability to introduce a major new product category.
🔎 Bottom line: Apple is entering the foldable-phone market years after competitors, but the company is betting that its hardware design and ecosystem can make its first foldable iPhone a major new product.
