Reporters from the three organizations were subsequently denied entry, with journalists reporting that their White House credentials had been deactivated or revoked. Trump has argued that the outlets have published what he describes as false or unfair coverage.
The three news organizations have challenged the restrictions in federal court, arguing that the administration violated their First Amendment rights and due-process protections by revoking their access because of their reporting. The lawsuit seeks an order restoring their White House access.
Vice President JD Vance has defended the administration’s position, saying the White House is not preventing the organizations from reporting on Trump but is withholding what he described as “special access” inside the White House. The dispute is now being considered by a federal judge in Washington, D.C.
The conflict has broader implications for the White House press pool because the system depends on cooperation among competing news organizations. The pool has historically served as a way for journalists to document presidential movements and statements and share that material with outlets that cannot be physically present.
