The estate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is facing a new class-action lawsuit brought by two women who say images of them as children were found among the extensive collection of sexually explicit material seized from Epstein’s properties.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Manhattan, seeks at least $6 million on behalf of more than 40 people whose images allegedly appeared in Epstein’s collection. The plaintiffs are seeking to expand legal claims against the estate beyond allegations involving sexual abuse to include people whose images were allegedly collected, possessed or distributed.
One plaintiff, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, alleges that Epstein obtained partially nude photographs of her when she was about 12 years old. Another plaintiff, identified as Amy, says images of her have continued to circulate and that she believes they were taken or obtained when she was a minor.
The lawsuit names Darren Indyke, Epstein’s former attorney, and Richard Kahn, his former accountant, in their roles as co-executors of Epstein’s estate. The plaintiffs are also asking for a court-supervised process to help identify people depicted in the seized material and notify them of their potential rights.
The case involves material investigators seized from Epstein’s properties, including thousands of photographs and videos. According to the lawsuit and reporting on the filing, some of the images allegedly involved children and were stored among other material collected by Epstein.
The new legal action adds another layer to the continuing litigation surrounding Epstein’s estate. Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex-trafficking charges and died in jail before his case went to trial. His estate has since faced multiple lawsuits from people alleging they were abused or exploited by Epstein.
The plaintiffs’ attorneys are seeking both financial compensation and a process that could help identify additional people depicted in the material. The lawsuit could therefore have implications beyond the two women who filed it, depending on how the court handles the proposed class action.
